The Hurt Locker

Here's an international trailer for Kathryn Bigelow's latest, an action drama about an Explosive Ordnance Disposal team in Iraq:

Bigelow (Point Break, Blue Steel, Near Dark) is among the most successful female directors of all time - and certainly the most successful female action movie director. The Hurt Locker won the grand prize at the Venice Film Festival last year and prompted Richard Corliss of Time to call it "a near-perfect movie about men in war, men at work." It will be awesome to see Bigelow's work return to the big screen this Spring, although I can't help but notice that the trailer touts the film as "from the director of Point Break" without actually using her name.

All About Steve

Sandra Bullock is going for a romantic comedy two-fer this year:

I really hope that Bullock is able to overcome what looks to be some pretty disappointing material in either All About Steve or The Proposal this year.

Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li

Kristin Kreuk (Smallville) stars in this film adaptation of the Street Fighter video game:

I guess it's not saying much that this will probably be better than the 1994 Street Fighter adaptation starring Jean-Claude Van Damme, but I have to admit that I am kind of excited to see Kreuk do an upside-down spin kick. I guess I can agree with the fanboys on that much, at least.

The Last House on the Left

The first trailer for this remake of Wes Craven's 1972 revenge film has hit the Web:

I know plenty of people will steer very clear of this, but I'm really curious to see what's been done with the remake. The original Last House on the Left, inspired by Igmar Bergman's 1960 film The Virgin Spring, is a rape/revenge movie in which parents take vengeance on a gang of teens who rape and murder their daughter. It will be very interesting to see if filmmakers of this new Last House on the Left have picked up on the many ways that rape and revenge have been re-framed on film lately or if they've gone the torture porn route of too many recent slick horror remakes.
